Join a dedicated healthcare team in a regional medical center serving the heart of the Midwest. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to life-saving care and support the emergency services team with both direct and indirect patient care activities.

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Emergency Services Director and Shift Manager, the Emergency Department Technician Level 1 performs essential patient care tasks to enhance quality outcomes and patient safety. Responsibilities include vital signs monitoring, 12-lead EKGs, specimen collection, point-of-care testing such as glucometer use, and assisting with activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, grooming, hygiene, toileting, feeding, and mobility support.

Additional duties involve splinting, crutch training, application and removal of backboards, cervical collars, and KED devices, simple wound care, assisting with medical exams and procedures, and monitoring physical restraints. Indirect care tasks include patient transportation, managing bedside monitoring equipment, responding to call lights, stocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness in patient care areas.

The role may also include functioning as Lead Tech, facilitating communication, problem-solving, multitasking, and providing respectful guidance to the emergency department team.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience in direct patient caregiving roles is preferred.

Requirements

• Certification as PCA or CNA preferred
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Class E driving license within 90 days of hire, if applicable
• CEVO certification to be completed within 90 days of hire or as available

Mental and Physical Demands

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, communicable diseases via blood and body fluids, occasional radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and biohazardous materials is possible. The environment may include interactions with hostile individuals.
