The Radiation Therapist is a vital member of the healthcare team, trained to operate radiation therapy machinery following established protocols and standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer radiation treatments safely and effectively according to physician prescriptions.
• Accurately position and image patients for treatment consistency.
• Provide emergent care during on-call periods.
• Document treatments, schedule appointments, and manage charges through electronic health records.
• Conduct daily operational and safety checks on linear accelerators and simulation equipment.
• Adhere to radiation safety principles to protect patients, self, and others.
• Simulate patients under physician guidance and fabricate immobilization devices as needed.
• Ensure all treatment plan data is verified and available at treatment start.
• Train and supervise students or junior radiotherapy technologists.
• Maintain strict ethical standards regarding patient rights and confidentiality.
• Promote a professional, positive, and cooperative work environment.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Educate and support patients and families by answering questions and reinforcing treatment advice.

Education

Graduation from an accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology is required.

Experience

At least one year of radiation oncology experience is preferred. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Computer proficiency is a plus.

Certification and Licenses

• Registered Radiation Therapist (ARRT) certification or eligibility in Radiation Therapy.
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Mental and Physical Requirements
