As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the float pool, you will deliver direct patient care by applying the nursing process with clinical competence and adhering to professional ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain a secure care environment.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and educate patients and families to promote health and recovery.
• Conduct ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance quality, and support clinical decision-making.
• Collaborate closely with supervising RNs or shift managers to meet patient care needs effectively.
• Document all care activities and quality measures accurately to support patient outcomes and compliance.
• Communicate patient information clearly to physicians and healthcare team members to improve care coordination.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Engage patients and families with timely communication and education to enhance their healthcare experience.
• Apply critical thinking in nursing practice and pursue continuing education to develop skills.

Education

Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program is required.

Experience

At least one year of practical nursing experience is preferred.

Licensure and Certification

Must hold a current LPN license valid in the state or possess Compact Licensure. Graduate Practical Nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Physical and Mental Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, and twisting. Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases is expected, and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
