As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), you will work under the guidance of licensed nurses to deliver direct support to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout their stay.

General Summary

Under the supervision of an RN, LPN, or shift manager, the PCA performs vital patient care tasks that contribute to positive health outcomes and a safe environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes.
• Provide basic care such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
• Collaborate closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly and enhance their overall experience.
• Accurately document all care activities to support clinical decision-making by the healthcare team.
• Effectively communicate relevant patient information to improve care quality and outcomes.

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

Certification and Training

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, candidates must complete a PCA training academy. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, and bending.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases is possible, along with occasional encounters with challenging individuals.
