General Summary:
Under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) delivers direct patient care with compassion and attention to safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Adheres to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and promptly alerts nursing staff to any changes in patient condition. Performs basic care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility support. All duties are performed following hospital policies to ensure quality outcomes and patient safety. Collaborates closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs and respond swiftly to requests, enhancing the overall patient experience. Accurately documents all care activities to support clinical decision-making and communicates relevant patient information to the healthcare team to improve outcomes.

Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience:
At least one year of experience and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

Certification/License:
If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, attendance at a PCA training academy is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental/Physical Requirements:
This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs., turning, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching, and frequent walking.

Working Conditions:
Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
