General Summary
The EMR Technician I is responsible for retrieving patient records, preparing and scanning inpatient and outpatient documentation, and performing quality assurance to maintain the integrity of medical records. You will respond to requests for medical records from healthcare providers and patients, ensuring compliance with privacy and authorization standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Handle requests for patient health information via mail, fax, phone, or in-person, verifying patient identity and authorization validity.
- Collect and check-in inpatient, observation, and surgery charts, following up on missing records promptly.
- Process patient documentation by assembling, scanning, and linking records according to departmental policies.
- Perform self-quality checks to ensure scanned documents meet required standards.
- Utilize computer systems efficiently, adapting quickly to new technologies and software.
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills and take initiative in daily tasks.
- Provide excellent customer service with attentiveness and respect, proactively addressing concerns.
- Maintain accountability, meet attendance standards, and work independently under pressure.
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience
At least one year of clerical experience with computer proficiency is required. Experience in Health Information Management and familiarity with electronic medical records is preferred.

Mental/Physical Requirements
This role requires considerable mental concentration and attention to detail, with the ability to handle confidential information. Physical demands include sitting for long periods, standing, walking, bending, and transporting charts weighing 5-10 lbs. Finger dexterity and good vision are necessary. Approximately 80% of the work involves computer use. Strong customer service skills and patience are essential.
