Summary: Under general supervision, this role involves repairing and maintaining the physical plant, buildings, furnishings, interior finishes, plumbing, electrical fixtures, equipment, and machinery. Tasks are performed according to diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications. Responsibilities include repairing and replacing defective building components, adjusting, lubricating, and cleaning various systems.

Major Job Functions:

• Determine methods and tools needed to complete assigned tasks, estimate time and manpower requirements.
• Perform standard shop computations using arithmetic, manuals, tables, and charts.
• Interpret written specifications, maintenance requests, instructions, and technical drawings such as blueprints and schematics.
• Conduct preventive maintenance following established schedules and recommend improvements.
• Service and maintain equipment including autoclaves, processors, dishwashers, appliances, lighting, thermostats, transport equipment, kitchen and laboratory devices, lifts, beds, and office equipment.
• Utilize various hardware and consumables such as fittings, gaskets, fasteners, electrical components, adhesives, lubricants, and sealers.
• Operate hand, power, and specialized tools and test equipment related to maintenance and repair tasks.
• Adhere to safety standards and wear required protective equipment.
• Proactively identify and resolve issues with physical plant components without direct supervision.
• Complete preventive maintenance work orders accurately and on time.
• Participate in staff training and in-service programs related to physical plant, building, and life safety systems.
• Engage in performance improvement and information management activities.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and operational work areas, tools, and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; trade or vocational school preferred. Valid driver's license required.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience in an institutional environment.

Requirements: Ability to interact effectively with employees, patients, visitors, vendors, and contractors. Must have visual acuity for reviewing reports, ability to climb ladders and stairs, lift at least 50 pounds, and work in environments with temperature extremes and high noise levels. Exposure to cutting tools, electrical equipment, adhesives, and demolition debris is expected.
