Major Job Functions: Responsibilities include collecting used equipment from hospital units and returning it to the decontamination area, documenting equipment, and preparing instruments for use. The role requires performing mechanical and manual decontamination, restocking emergency carts, maintaining supplies and equipment, and reporting maintenance needs. The technician supports surgical and obstetrical units by providing necessary instrumentation and supplies, documenting inventory usage, and assisting with instrument assembly and sterilization processes. Familiarity with inventory control systems is essential for issuing and crediting supplies. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Education and Formal Training: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Prior training in instrument handling or operating room experience is preferred.

Work Experience: At least six months of experience in sterile processing or a related field is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions clearly and communicate effectively. Manual dexterity and motor coordination are necessary for handling delicate instruments and equipment. Must be able to read, write, and understand English.

Physical Requirements: Good vision and hearing are essential. The role involves manual handling of instrument trays weighing up to 50 pounds and pushing carts loaded up to 100 pounds. Prolonged standing is required.
