Summary: Under the guidance of the Technical Specialist and Manager, this role involves performing specimen processing and various non-technical duties within the laboratory. Responsibilities include patient registration, sample collection, and evaluating sample suitability for testing. Tasks encompass centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping of specimens. Support clinical testing by preparing slides, loading instruments, and reporting results. Perform waived and point-of-care testing along with phlebotomy.

Education

High school diploma or GED is required. Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of full-time experience in specimen processing, phlebotomy, or a related field is preferred.

• Efficient specimen processing from receipt to delivery for analysis, meeting turnaround times.
• Preparation and packaging of specimens for send-out.
• Effective communication with other departments.
• Clerical duties and laboratory setup tasks.
• Maintenance of automated equipment and quality control documentation.
• Adherence to laboratory safety, standard precautions, and disposal policies.
• Assist in training and orienting new employees.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical activities such as bending, squatting, reaching, and carrying.
• Visual acuity to discern colors and manual dexterity.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team in a sometimes stressful environment.
• Excellent communication skills including listening, writing, and verbal interaction.
• Knowledge of laboratory functions and specimen requirements.

This position involves exposure to bloodborne pathogens and occasional contact with toxic substances. Flexibility to work additional hours or shifts is necessary.
