Job Summary

As a Patient Access Specialist I, you will be responsible for accurately scheduling and registering patients for clinic and hospital services, ensuring data integrity, and supporting patients with financial responsibilities. Your role includes verifying insurance, obtaining referrals and pre-authorizations, conducting registration interviews, and managing point-of-service collections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and register patients using applicable software systems, maintaining accuracy in patient identification and insurance verification.
  • Verify referrals and pre-authorizations for services.
  • Conduct registration interviews prior to initial visits.
  • Collect patient financial responsibilities such as co-payments and co-insurances, and manage daily cash drawer operations.
  • Operate multi-line telephone systems to handle incoming calls professionally and efficiently.
  • Respond to patient inquiries, ensuring comfort, dignity, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Complete daily work assignments and general administrative tasks, including mail processing and workflow improvement research.
  • Participate in special projects and support team activities.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is advantageous.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in insurance verification processes using multiple online and telephone systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and various office equipment.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with sensitivity to patients' emotional and social needs.
