Job Summary: Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures by ensuring the operating suite is fully prepared and all surgical instruments and supplies are monitored and sterilized. Participate in staff meetings and performance improvement initiatives. Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment following infection prevention protocols. Provide leadership in the absence of management and adapt to new ideas while working under stressful conditions. On-call availability with a 30-minute response time is required.

Essential Functions:

• Interact professionally with patients and their families, offering explanations and reassurance as needed.
• Notify licensed staff promptly if patients report pain.
• Adapt procedures to accommodate neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Prepare operating rooms efficiently with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment tailored to each surgical procedure.
• Handle specimens with care and accuracy at all times.
• Assist in patient positioning, prepping, and draping for surgery.
• Perform accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles; report and resolve discrepancies immediately.
• Maintain strict medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and procedures.
• Ensure a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self by adhering to policies and procedures.
• Verify proper functioning of all equipment and instruments before procedures.
• Respect patient privacy and sensitivities, observing patients with minimal disturbance.
• Address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and families with dignity and respect.
• Follow aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures.
• Deliver patient care in a manner that optimizes safety and minimizes healthcare errors.

Education, Experience, and Requirements:

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Registered Surgical Technician credential.
• Preferred: At least one year of experience in operating room or sterile processing environments.
• Ability to respond to on-call duties within 30 minutes.
