Job Summary
As a Patient Access Specialist I, you will be responsible for registering patients accurately, verifying insurance and benefits, and managing referrals and pre-authorizations. You will conduct patient interviews prior to visits, handle point-of-service collections, and maintain precise records while providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and register patients using healthcare software, ensuring data integrity including patient identification and insurance verification.
- Verify referrals and pre-authorizations for services.
- Conduct registration interviews to gather necessary patient information.
- Collect patient financial responsibilities such as co-pays and co-insurances, manage cash drawer operations, and generate receipts.
- Operate multi-line phone systems to respond promptly and professionally to inquiries.
- Maintain patient comfort, dignity, and confidentiality throughout the intake process.
- Complete daily assignments, administrative tasks, and special projects as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and support a positive work environment.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
- Healthcare experience is advantageous.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.
