This role as an Access Specialist I involves ensuring patients are smoothly scheduled and registered for various clinical and hospital services, supporting them throughout their care journey including financial responsibilities.

Job Summary

As an Access Specialist I, you will provide exceptional customer service by accurately scheduling and registering patients, verifying insurance and benefits, and managing referrals and pre-authorizations. You will also handle point-of-service collections, operate multi-line phone systems, and maintain patient confidentiality and comfort during intake.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and register patients using applicable software, ensuring data accuracy including patient identification and insurance verification.
  • Verify referrals and pre-authorizations for services.
  • Conduct registration interviews prior to initial visits.
  • Collect patient financial responsibilities such as co-pays and co-insurances, and manage daily cash drawer operations.
  • Operate multi-line telephone systems to respond promptly and professionally to inquiries.
  • Complete daily work assignments and general administrative tasks including mail processing.
  • Research workflow improvements and participate in special projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification encouraged.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with insurance verification systems and strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Work Environment

This full-time position involves 10-hour shifts within a 40-hour workweek under a service union contract. The role supports a collaborative and respectful workplace culture focused on quality patient experiences.
