Join a dynamic healthcare team in the Pacific Northwest region as an ASCP Medical Lab Technician on a PRN basis. This role involves comprehensive participation in all phases of clinical laboratory testing within a collaborative hospital environment.

Job Summary

Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory functions, you will support procedure reviews, training, and inventory management. Duties include specimen processing for on-site and reference lab testing, instrument operation and maintenance, and quality assurance activities. You will evaluate test results for accuracy, investigate unusual findings, and report critical values promptly. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting equipment issues, participating in proficiency testing, and completing mandatory training and continuing education.

Education and Experience

• Associate's Degree required
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience preferred; new graduates will be considered

Licenses and Certifications

• Current ASCP certification or equivalent
• CPR or BLS certification within 3 months of hire
• Phlebotomy license is optional

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Familiarity with Quality Control Westgard Rules and documentation
• Ability to recognize and troubleshoot unlikely test results
• Proficiency in English and basic computer skills
• Competence in body fluid cell counts, hematology manual differentials, urine microscopy, blood banking basics, and gram staining
• Effective communication with healthcare providers, nurses, and patients
• Ability to work independently and adapt to variable shift schedules

Physical Requirements

Includes frequent standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 35 lbs. Normal vision, hearing, and speech capabilities are required.

Work Environment

This position offers 12-hour shifts within a 40-hour workweek schedule. The role is based in a regional healthcare setting in the Pacific Northwest, providing access to a variety of outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, kayaking, and nature viewing.
